Aluminum Fence

Im looking at a aluminum fence that is atop a 3' wall. The wall is CMU with brick cladding all around. The fence was core drilled into the top, just into the brick. The fence is failing, along with the brick. The solution I have proposed is to remove the brick at the top of the wall, and pour a CIP cap over the wall, encasing the aluminum fence posts. Now, I know that concrete and aluminum dont play together well, so is there a coating that I can put on first to protect the fence, yet still get it embeded?

Check with a SIKA representative, I am sure they can figure out a coating for the posts that would work for you. IF they cannot, you will have to determine a way to embed another post material like a sleeve and then isolate the aluminum from that material. Also try this thread, I hope it works;

The only official reference I've ever seen is in the Florida Building Code, Section 2003.8.4.4 which states " Aluminum surfaces in contact with lime-mortar, concrete or other masonry materials, shall be protected with alkali-resistant coatings, such as heavy-bodied bituminous paint or water-white methacrylate lacquer."

You should apply bituminous paint to the AL, or fill the space in the drilled hole with an epoxy grout.

Bituminuous paint is mandated here too (Ontario) but I think UcfSE's epoxy is a better idea.

They didnt want to core drill the concrete, wanted to embed the post and pour around. So just add bituminous coating prior to pouring around the post?
