Yes, I just read about that. Talk about your stupid people.

Things were so much simpler back when when our sons were born. The first two were born in a Catholic hospital so of course the father was not allowed in the delivery room and the 'reveal' didn't come until the doctor told you in the waiting room. Now nine years later, when out third son was born, things had changed and I was allowed to be there for the birth, but again, the 'reveal' only took place after we all got to see which 'pieces & parts' were there ;-)

Since you have experienced both the old way and the new way of doing it.
Which one do you prefer?
The sitting outside waiting or being in the the delivery room?

Mixed emotions, I guess. Note that with our first son, my wife had a fairly long, but not unusual labor and the Nuns allowed me to stay through most of that, so I got to experience what most every father got to experience back then (this was 1970). However, our second son was two months premature and she went right into the delivery room. The doctor almost didn't make it in time, but the Nuns joked that they've done almost as many deliveries as the doctors, so not to worry.

With our third son, my wife had complications from day one. Between our second and third, she had had two miscarriages, one that had almost made it to the second trimester, so it was a nine month long fight just to get to the delivery. And then she was over a week late, and when she did go into labor we had to rush her to the hospital and her doctor never even made it. Our son was delivered by a young resident, his first solo birth. So even when I got to be in the delivery room, it was all so rushed that it was a bit anticlimactic.

We didn't want to know, but during the ultra scan it was pretty obvious what he was.

Our sons were all pre-ultrasound [thumbsup]

Why on earth would you want to fire 80 lbs of it when the max recommended is 1 lb.

Surrounded by quarry walls I wonder how many at the party are now having hearing issues.

:) Maybe the logic was, that we set it of on the quarry it is a "safe" environment.
But if we want it to be seen above the quarry, we better put a lot of explosives in to do the job.
Obviously you can only get it to go off with a high velocity weapon, if they didn't use ignition wire, I guess that would work too.

Bigger is better, I guess... Our youngest is now about 40 and was born at home. 4 or 5 hours after his birth, I took him for a walk in the neighbourhood. He was in a snuggly that I made and we had an umbrella because it was drizzling... When he was born, we saved the placenta to plant under a tree and kept it in the freezer... our two younger children who were attending grade school at the time, took it to school for 'show and tell'... They were actually present for his birth... got a real interesting phonecall after the show and tell.

Hihi.. I am shore you did :)
I know some have as a tradition to plant a tree fore the one's born, it is a nice tradition.
I can see it has references in many cultures.

Just glad they didn't detonate it in the backyard... My God does have a sense of humour...

Ive been at the birth of four. Each time it was like watching a favourite pub burn down...

I wish the media would make a point of telling us what the concerned neighbors do for a living, bc I'd really like to know how folks like that survive in the world.

Tannerite is pretty much a big firework - mostly light and noise, not safe by any means but you have to work pretty hard to make it do much damage. In the military our construction engineers spent a lot of time building so the demolition engineers had something to practice blowing up. There was always a call to the USGS prior bc their seismometers were only ~100 miles away and could detect charges fired. In any case, if the ground was shaking you had bigger concerns.

I am not shore I understand what the neighbors occupation has to do with this. [ponder]

80 lbs seems like a lot... I remember as a kid, having a crate of railway torpedos... boy, they make a noise.
