When he was born, we saved the placenta to plant under a tree and kept it in the freezer... our two younger children who were attending grade school at the time, took it to school for 'show and tell'.
My youngest son took his miniature horse to school for "Show and Tell".
I have now be massively one-upped.

Probably the first and only time that happened... and that was 40 years back... I don't know what would happen today... Wanda and I thought it was quite funny...

I brought my gold fish but dropped the jar trying to open the door.

likely a youngster at the time... and quite tragic...

Our two oldest sons brought a quart jar of volcanic ash to school (this was back in Michigan) from Mount St. Helens, a week after the eruption, thanks to their grandparents who lived near Yakima, which got a really good dusting of ash, like several inches before it was all over.

It's finding someone you can't live without

Can't remember any show and tell from school not from me or anybody else either.
The only thing close, was my sister that stal my car from the garage when she passed here driver license test.
I was using our parents car and spotted my car driving by a petrolstation where I had parked talking to some friends.
The thing was, I was doing repares on my car so the tire nuts where only screwed on by hand.
So the tires where loos, then there was a lot of [curse]..
Everything went well, no damage done..

I wonder if people ever consider the wellbeing of their unborn child when they set off massive explosives nearby. That type of shock cannot be healthy.

My eldest once took in a water bottle half full of sand from the Sahara deep in Algeria (gets really red when it gets wet).

I'd been out there routing pipelines, but when asked by the teacher what daddy was doing in the Sahara, apparently he paused and then said "He takes photographs"

which is partly true as I had shown him the site photos, but made me laugh...

I suspect there wasn't a lot of thought put into the decision...

I live near a quarry, and I rarely hear blasting. And it is not that loud.
People leaving near a military base tend to hear more blasting.

So if I heard something very loud I would be concerned.

Tannerite is pretty much a big firework - mostly light and noise, not safe by any means but you have to work pretty hard to make it do much damage.
The numerous YouTube videos where things are torn to shreds after only a few pounds of Tannerite are detonated would beg to differ otherwise...

Two people were killed in separate gender reveal explosion incidences this past February, if I recall correctly.

Come to think of it, most quarry blasts are underground, and I doubt this was, so it would have been louder than usual.

Then again, I do live near a person who built his house overlooking the quarry, and he complains about the trucks backing up noise (Beep, beep, beep). The quarry has shifted to using white noise to replace the beep beep on the loaders.
Wonder what he thinks about the rock crusher noise?
I never met the guy, so I don't know what he is thinking.

Many people around who believe thinking is overrated.

Well some sounds are more disturbing then others.
Low fervency sound that are constant can be disturbing but if it's constant the brain can kind of filter it out.
Beeping's that comes and goes are worse.

They are blasting not far from here now because of the road build, but they use blast mats so it's more like thunder and you can feel that the house vibrates.

"because of the road build"

Slightly off topic, but did they ever manage to repair that bridge that ran away when they tried to launch it?

What was that phrase again from the site manager? " We thought it would go well...."

Good reason to get out of the way of an ambulance. You might get hit by the lawyers following it.

Just had to be said.

I have posted the result of the investigation on the thread.
I can see if I can find some information on the the progress if you like?
Otherwise I can take the car and go there and take some photos myself.

It apparently has a brisance (shattering effect) of 0.8, so it's not a high explosive, but it's not off by much. If I recall correctly, that's comparable to anfo.

My glass has a v/c ratio of 0.5
