Hello,

There is another video on Youtube of someone making a catastrophic decision with Tannerite. He put 3 pounds of Tannerite in an old riding lawn mower and shot it from at best 50 yards away. It exploded and a piece of shrapnel flew back and cost him part of a leg. I believe the safe distance is 100 yards per pound.

ASME PCC-2 withdrawal distance for safety might be larger. Equations for both percussive and fragment injury are provided.

Yes. PCC shows where it is clearly unsafe near an explosive event. A prudent man does not stand nearly that close.

The numerous YouTube videos where things are torn to shreds after only a few pounds of Tannerite are detonated would beg to differ otherwise...

There are ways of making a lethal bomb out of most anything, its all dependent on how much energy/pressure is built and how its released - how you shape the charge and what shrapnel the blast propels. Bad things can be accomplished with a firecracker and a glass jar of small fasteners, the firecracker by itself dropped at your feet is fairly harmless tho. In Iraq I saw large charges that were harmless bc they weren't focusing the energy anywhere, also saw some small ones that caused devastation. Tannerite is the same. Placed on top of open ground and propelling nothing other than its wrapper like in the OP is harmless. Placed inside of a vessel and/or propeling shrapnel yes, it can be devastating. That's why the tables above are inapplicable to the situation - basic physics and engineering.
