All,

I work for a precast firm that produces hollow core. I was wondering what programs would be beneficial for steel embed design. Typically for these embeds we ask for the lateral loads acting on the building and we design the embeds accordingly by hand. Our typical embed is a 4x6x3/8 plate with two 1/2 inch diameter by 4 in studs. Is there a program that will go through the design process to make our lives a little easier (stud capacity, plate bending, concrete capacity, minimum edge distances, etc). Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any dedicated programs for this purpose. I would suggest an automated spreadsheet to handle this.

I don't know of any program either but I think it would be fairly easy to setup a spreadsheet.

You can perhaps utilize Hilti Profis (a free download) and it has a cast-in anchor rod option that would to some extent mimic the headed studs.

It allows custom layouts of anchors, various plate sizes and thicknesses, etc. and designs to ACI Appendix D.

I used to use a routine developed by Nelson. I still have the catalog but it is really out of date. Any stud system should meet Appendix D.
