I have looked high and low for journal papers etc. with little luck.

In order to design a coiled-tubing reel one needs to calculate the applied loads. For a given tube size/material, tube tension, number of layers, and core radius, how may the normal spreading loads and radial compressive loads on the flanges/core respectively, be calculated?
