Hi,

open any SE file then go to
Tools --> Options --> Register Card 'Helpers'
--> Tool tips -- set 'with minimal text'
or uncheck Tool Tips as a whole

to save space (either optional)
uncheck --> 'Large Buttons' and 'Text on Buttons'

If I recall correctly when you install SE V18 it sets itself in apprentice mode. This may also be part of the problem.

The start up screen has an option at the bottom to turn this off.

Also on 'Helpers' is the option to turn off the Start-up Screen.

Turn Off The apprentice mode and then turn off text on icons using Options->Helpers:->

Just to add one little thing on this subject :

To disable the 'Command Tips' as they call it (bigger tooltips that appear once in a while when in apprentice mode to explain the reference planes for example), go to Help/Assistants and uncheck 'Show Command Tips'
