We have received Drilling Conductor pipes 36" WT-1.5” Grade API 5L X-56, SAW, PSL-2 with threaded connection (box and pin) and during inspection, we found one pin connector (external threaded) has been damaged. After consultation with the manufacturer, the only method of repair is to completely cut off the damaged Pin and replace this with a welded Pin connector. Now, supplier has received the new Pin from manufacturer, but they require our acceptance of this method of repair.

Can we accept such repair? If we accept, what precautions shall be taken during welding? (note: C-seam and L-seam will overlap). Any pre-heating or PWHT is required? What NDT methods shall we apply?

Please advise..

I think nobody wants to touch it, because of the reference to "drilling conductor" application. Maybe you should explain further what you are attempting to do with this pipe.

Regardless of application ( drilling or any other), please advise in general what are the steps to be taken during the repair welding of 36" WT-1.5” Grade API 5L X-56, SAW, PSL-2 pipes where L-seam and C-seam overlaps.
Also, please advise me on NDE requiremenst and pre-heating/PWHT (if any). Sorry, I am not good at API 5L interpretation.

Got a picture of that.

Hi metboss. The repair method that the manufacturer proposed you is right. The manufacturer should send you the WPS. However, since the conductor pipe should be completely cemented and "no loads" will be supported by this element, it will not require special precautions.
