Area Reinforcement Calculation Tips on Solidworks

I often find the need to calculate reinforcement area for openings in head and shells of PV's and mostly use SolidWorks in order to do the same. However, this software makes it very cumbersome to calculate areas from a cross section.
Have any of you guys had any similar experiences and would care to share the same with the forum please? I typically end up selecting the area, copying i into a new sheet and using the area tool to calculate it there. Selecting multiple areas on the same drawing seems to give me a result that is the sum of ALL areas present REGARDLESS of the highlighted areas.
Any tips would be highly appreciated!

You can sketch a planar surface by converting the entities on your cross section and then measuring the area on that surface. However I'm not sure I understand the question. There are code rules in VIII-I that have to be followed when calculating the reinforcement area of a nozzle. You can't simply model it and then measure the area of the cross section.

That is exactly the method I use. And I do follow all VIII rules. However, i am having problems differentiating between two different areas (the one that needs to be replaced and the reinforcing area, for example) on a single sheet (drawing)
