Does ASME B16.9 have an allowable wall thickness tolerance? I can't seem to find it. We have an 8x6 XS reducer measured 0.5 on the 8" side and 0.62 - 0.65 on the 6" side. Is that acceptable?
The required thickness for buttweld fitting is enough so if the fitting is welded to seamless pipe the pipe would always burst first.
An XS reducer should have weld prep for XS pipe on each and thicker wall in the middle. The small end may be even thicker since the reducer is formed but foraging a larger diameter down to the small end diameter.
Often a fitting is forged to allow for any thickness of connecting pipe schedule by machining what you want. This seems to have been a manufactory error.
