Good morning all,
when I have to apply the spot radiography and I have different welders I have to make one spot for each welder, but if in the 50 feet of welding I have joints with a different configuration of the joint, I have to do different spots or is it not necessary?

thanks in advance

Flaiano

UW-52: "Butt-welded joints that are to be spot radiographed shall be examined locally as provided herein."
50ft of Butt Welded joints, regardless of joint configuration....as long as they are Type I or II.

Thank you david339933 for your reply, but i don't understand where you can find the sentence " regardless of joint configuration" as you wrote. thank you in advance

The Code states Butt-welded joints.....therefore it means butt-welded joints. It does not state butt-welded joints of each configuration.

Standard Designation: BPV Section VIII Div 1
Edition/Addenda:
Para./Fig./Table No:
Subject Description: Section VIII, Division 1, UW-11(a) and UW-52
Date Issued: 08/08/1979
Record Number: BC-79-368
Interpretation Number : VIII-79-52
Question(s) and Reply(ies):
Question (1): If a vessel is to be examined under the requirements of UW-52 of Section VIII, Division 1, does the exemption in UW-11(a)(4) and (a)(5)(b) for small connections apply?

Reply (1): No. The requirements of UW-52 are not based on weld joint location, but solely on examination of every 50 ft. increment of the butt welded joints.

Question (2): When the vessel sections and heads to which nozzles are attached are covered by UW-11(a)(5), what requirements shall be applied to the Category A, B, and C of the welds in small nozzles?

Reply (2): Category A, B and C butt welds are required to be fully radiographed when the rules of UW-11(a) of Section VIII, Division 1 are applicable, except when Category B and C butt welds meet the exemption of UW-11(a)(5)(b).
