LOL, stop nitpicking the Code, us volunteers have enough to do...

Regular way means code hydrostatic test. This wording has been in Section I for many years.

His/her, we have not caught up.

2004 Edition of Section I
PW-54.2 When repairs are made, the part shall again
be tested in the regular way, and if it passes the test the
Inspector shall accept it. If it does not pass the test the
Inspector may permit supplementary repairs, or if in his
judgment the pressure part is not suitable for service, he
may permanently reject it.

the Inspector shall accept it. If it does not pass the
test the Inspector may permit supplementary repairs,
or if in his judgment the pressure part is not suitable

Yeah, LOL indeed!

yes, i am aware of process committee members or volunteers go through to review/update the code. nitpicking is not my intent . . .

an inspector and myself read this and we were surprised and got a good chuckle . . . the paragraph also left us a little dumbfounded even though we both know the meaning of the regular way.

will you be handling the correction or will i need to submit one?

I can discuss with several members at the next meeting in May and request a code revision. Unfortunately, this is not an editorial or errata. Interesting, I have been on BPV I standards committee for over 10 years and never has anyone brought this up.

This has been interpreted already by the ASME Committee. I-82-04.
Interpretation Number: I-82-04
Question(s) and Reply(ies):
Question (1): When performing a hydrostatic test on a vessel of welded
construction per PG-99.2, is any leakage through the weld(s) permitted?
Reply (1): No (see PW-40.1).
Question (2): What is the definition of the term "in the regular way," as
used in PW-54.2?
Reply (2): This means that the hydrostatic test required after repairs are
made shall be conducted in the same manner as the initial hydrostatic
test (see PG-99).
