What is typical for the rate of pressure rise on a burst test conducted to ASME VIII Div 1? The code only states that the pressure should be slowly increased to rupture. Are there other codes or industry guidelines that specify the pressure increase increments and hold times, or a general rate of pressure rise?

I follow several things for pressure increments,
i. ASME VIII-1 UG 101 h
ii. Design calculations and safety factor
ii. Volume of the test vessel
iii. Test Pressure

We typically back calculate the required test pressure to achieve our desired MAWP. Then depending on the desired MAWP and the safety factor in our design we increment in steps of 5%-10% Once we start seeing signs of permanent strain we don't exceed 5% per step. We let it sit for a few minutes at each step as we take our measurements. I would recommend using water from a tank for the test that way it is room temperature and some of the dissolved gases would have escaped.
