ASME VIII Div2 2007-error on formulas reinf. for opennings 1

Hey,

Did someone already used the § 4.5 of ASME VIII Div2 ed 2007, calculations for openning reinforcement.

Formulas (4.5.4) of § 4.5.5.1 a) 2) for calculation of LR1 is wrong: LR1 = min [ sqrt(Reff t) + w ] shall we correct as

LR1 = sqrt(Reff t) + w
or
LR1 = min [ sqrt(Reff t); w ]

Interesting observation. The appropriate way to address an "error" like that is to send an e-mail to the secretary of the Codes and Standards committee. The contact info is on this web page

Please let us know the resolution to your issue.

Note that any other responses that you might receive on eng-tips would be only anonymous opinions and worth, well, what you pay for them. There is only one adequate resolution, and that is the one that I stated above.

After some test is seems that correct formulas is:
LR1 = mini { ? (Reff t) ; W }

I will send query to the secretary of the Codes and Standards committee anyway and I will update the thread.

I think it is wrong.
When I do the calculation, just use sqrt(Reff*t)+W

Didn't talk to AI yet.

I contacted to ASME secretary,
the correct equation is
L_R1= [sqrt(R_eff*t)]+W
