Hi all,

Do any of you have experience with using asphalt anchors? In particular I'm looking at BoltHold. The model I'm looking at is rated for 2000 lbs pullout, but I just feel sketchy using them, especially in hot weather (Florida here). Contractor is pushing on using these to hold down some bleachers - so nothing critical - till hurricane hits...

Seems to me that the test method shown in the pictures are somewhat biased, since the test rig itself prevents the certain failure modes from occurring. In concrete or masonry, there's no expectation that the concrete or masonry around the hole would separate from the bulk material (an abruption), but for asphalt, since it's not a bulk material, the joint could pull the underlying material up, and the asphalt would deform accordingly. The test rig would prevent the asphalt abruption from occurring, thereby making the asphalt anchor appear to be way stronger than it really is.

It seems to me that if the manufacturer were using that specific test method, they knew they were gaming the system, and could achieve results that are completely unrealistic.
