assemby constraints tip 3

What would be the fastest way to merge the rectangular end cap onto the the rectangular tube using assembly constraints? there must be a shortcut from the way I do it now. (the cap ID is slightly smaller than the tube)

Offset mate the inner surfaces of 2 faces of the cap with the tube, then offset mate the cap end interior face to the tub end.

i was hoping there'd be a lazier way without having to measure such as getting it planar, parallel on side and the align midpoints?

Have you tried the "center" constraint? Use the 2 to 2 sub-option, pick the opposing faces of the cap (the 2 short legs of the rectangle) then the corresponding outer faces of the tube; repeat for the other set of opposing faces. The cap will now be centered on the tube, you'll just have to constrain the distance of the cap away from the tube, or constrain the bottom 'edge' of the blend face to the end tube face.

 
Center the appropriate cap/tube faces "2 to 2" in both directions on the rectangular tube, align edge of radius to the end face of the tube.
 
A tip with assembly constraints: In the assembly you can switch the component part refernce set to "entire part" and use the datums planes, axis, and CYCS, (and maybe even sketch curves) to constrain to.
Then when you are done constraining, switch the reference set back to "model" (or whatever reference set your use) ~ even tho the objects that were constrained to may not be showing they will still be used for that.
