hi,

i am trying to find a way to make an associative copy of a curve / spline in NX2.

Somehow I do not seem to find the right operations that keep the copy associative.

I tried offstetting the curve, but this does not really allow me to possition the curve where I want it to be . Is there a way ?

Thanks for the help,

Sebastian

Hi sebw

I'm sorry for my english but I'm french

Have you try to do a sketch? After you do a second sketch with the same parametres of the first sketch.

Hi,

yes, but the curve is a studiospline outside the sketch that controlls it.

I am just looking for a simple way to copy the curve, like you can copy bodys and features, etc, in instance.

Thanks and best regards,

Sebastian

And if you do part assembly where you add on one time the part with the curve, after you add on second time the same part but you move forward this part. After in the part assembly you can do waves curves

Offset copy the curve to a distance of 0.00.

If you want to move the copy, damienfrance's suggestion is probably the best way to go.

All suggestions aside, I think the main point to get here is there is no EASY way to associatively copy a curve. Yet another shining example of NX's poor instance array capabilities.

I don't know how other users feel, but I think it might be worth a try to 'join forces' and approach UGS as a group in order to draw their attention to NX's problems with Instancing & Arraying. I model wheels & Instancing & Arraying is vital for me to be able to efficiently model a wheel. With NX's current limitations, I'm forced to constantly find a workaround to similar problems as outlined above.

Would anyone besides myself be interested in trying to get something done with this?

Tim,
You can add my name to the list. I looked over the CIP list posted at the PLM World site, and your suggestions were among the only ones that I saw that were actually of any importance for the average user. It would be nice if we could get an organization such as GM behind us. UGS may deny it, but large user groups such as GM DO carry alot of weight when it comes to any enhancements.

Thanks everybody, for their ideas.
To bad I was hoping that I overlooked the easy way.

Best regards,

Sebastian

Sebastian,

I hate to say this, but don't get into the mindset that NX is on the cutting edge of technology in every area because it is far from it in some areas. This is just one shining example of where NX is severly lacking compared to much cheaper CAD softwares....try arraying a single Free Form Feature without Group Feature. You can't do it...it's pretty lame, in my opinion, that for every single surface you wish to associatively instance has to be part of a Feature Group. That's nothing more than added mouse clicks.

Probably one of the more noticable areas where NX is really weak is in its consistency throughout the interface. Some dialogs allow you to dismiss with MB2, others will not and you must click the OK button on the dialog. At the same time, NX is light years ahead of the 'mid-range' crowd in other areas like advanced surfacing or FEA, etc.

Eric,

I'm glad to hear that you're interested. I'm quite busy at the moment but when I get some free time, I'd like to get in touch with you and start getting some more people involved so we can see what bombarding UGS with a common complaint does to their attitude about overhauling Instancing, be it mirroring, arraying or any other type of instance or the geometry that is allowed for instancing.

Tim,
This probably needs a new thread to recruit people, but until then I can be reached at ehayden at texascomposite . com.

Thanks Eric. I'll email you & we can start a thread when both of us have more time to devote to this. If you haven't already, check out bbsnotes....NX4 is getting raked over the coals by a few folks & given what we've been discussing this week, I can't say I blame them (the users).
