I am on a project which specifies the following for load transfer dowels in a junction slab (Basically the slab that prevents overturning when a vehicle hits a traffic railing mounted on a MSE Wall, the dowels transfer the load at expansion joints):
Dowel Load transfer devices will be ASTM A 36 smooth round bar and hot dipped galvanized.
And the certification for that bar submitted states the following:
1" Round Grade 60/A706
ASTM A615M-12 GR 60/A706 CE.50 Max / AASHTO M31-07
Can this be substituted for A 36?
During my investigation it appears the only different is that A615 Grade 60 has a higher yield strength but less ductile.
Thoughts?
