I have a question on ASTM E1300-12 Appendix X1. The question in specifics is in regards to the caution stated in X1.1.1 for using the alternative deflection calculation procedure, and pressures less then one-third design capacity of lite. Is someone able to provide some background on this caution statement or point me in the direction of which reference in the Standard I should pursue to get additional information on the caution statement?

Some Background information: Windows I usually work with are 24 to 36 inch base dimension, .25" thick. Generally the actual aspect ratio of the windows is between 1 and 2. The windows are being checked for wind loads only.

Thanks for your consideration and time.

Warhamer,

Te reason for the caution in Appendix X1 about less than 1/3 of capacity is that the tables in E1300 are based on non-linear analysis. The glass gets stiffer as it deflects.

Glass99,

Thank you, Glass is not one of my normal materials. The PE I usually work with in regards to glass, had a medical event he has since recovered from.
