Okay, I know it is here somewhere, but I am unable to find the command to keep the link between the part file and the dft file. When I update my part, the drawing keeps the old dimensions and profile. How do I get it to automatically update?

Scratch that request, I was used to the drawing automatically being updated from the part file. I finally found the little button (8 down from the list on the left) that updates the dims and profiles along with the info box with what was updated. Sorry, still battling the SW world where things didn't have to have a button clicked.

The reason for the button as opposed to automatically updating is that the user can choose when the update occurs rather than having no choice. You can also righ mouse click on a view and you will find "Update View" which will update only that view.

The update is not automatic because if you have a drawing of an assembly containing thousands of parts, you don't want to sit and wait for it to update if all you need to do is change a note on the drawing!!.
A thin grey line around the view shows it needs updating.
Thicker corners indicate the model should be opened (usually an assembly) and updated (re-built in SW speak)
Go to Tools > Drawing view tracker to see which models have changed.
Another useful feature to have turned on is 'Track Dimension Changes'.
Go to Tools > Dimensions > Track Dimension Changes > then on the Options tab make sure the Track Changes is ticked.
When you update your drawing all dimensions that have changed will be listed and marked and you can zoom to each to check or re-attach it.
