Hello, I have a small automotive repair shop and am looking to upgrade my OBD tester. I have seen a lot of testers, and having a problems deciding on one. Looking for a tester that will cover the most vehicles, and test ABS and SRS systems. Are the testers that hook up to your laptop computer good or is it better to a stand alone tester. Thank You, Larry

Larry.

You are probably on the wrong site, but best of luck.

This site is more about design and development than repairs.

Thank You for tip, I will try that. Larry

It seems that the laptop versions are taking over. It eliminates all the hardware costs (assuming you have a laptop). We just bought AutoEnginuity for our testing lab. I was not involved in the decision so can't give you any detailed pros & cons.

The laptop kind are the best choice IMO, but bear in mind that there are many different protocols and manufacturer specific code definitions, so it is not an all-in-one solution. I have two different laptop adapters to cover my three vehicles.
