Can I add an AWS edge weld symbol to the default ANSI weld symbols in SW? If so can you please provide an explanation of how that is done.

I'm running SW2013 sp 5.0

Thank you, Diego

See faq559-1229 under Customizing SolidWorks. My gtol file is listed under OS(C)/Program Files/SolidWorks Corp/Solidworks/lang/english. Creating the correct symbol is mostly trial & error. Be aware that all the computers must have this symbol written into their file or else it won't show.

**** WARNING ****
Symbols will NOT be recognised on another system unless the symbols are embedded in the recipients gtol.sym file.

Thank you felix7502. I had read that faq a couple years ago and now remember it. The kicker of course is the non-standard symbol wouldn't transfer to another SW user unless they had the modified file. It may be better for us to add the edge weld symbol to our shared design library.

Thanks, Diego

First, if you are using SolidWorks 2014, the GTOL.SYM file can be placed in a shared network location for everyone in your enterprise to utitilize.

Second, if you do not need to use this symbol within your annotation, you can create it as a block. Blocks can have arrows/leaders, same as annotations.
