I have read a closed thread on this topic from 2010 with minimal success. I am looking for information on where I can purchase AWS/ASME A5.9 ER309LMo.

Houston office Kobelco, TG-S309MoL claimed they did not make it even though it is in their catalog

Metrode is close, just not the same classification.

Exocor is not certified only deemed "similar"

Special Metals, ESAB, Techalloy, Midalloy ect. are all made to the EN ISO standard

Any help on finding this wire or explanation on the discontinuation of AWS/ASME classification would be appreciated.

Try Thyssen. By the way, why can't you use the filler metal to an EN ISO standard?
 
Thank you for the response. This is not my project so I am only helping to find the wire & I do not know all of the exact details. We are experiencing chemistry variations between the deposits from the EN/ISO and the AWS/SFA specifications. Also I have not read the acceptance in the SFA but I would also assume we would need to re-qualify several existing SFA classified WPS's. (Sec IX, GMAW & SAW processes)

Ths is not uncommon for dual certification because wire manufacturer's may tweak their product line.
 
I've run into similar problems purchasing certain filler metal alloys. It is a simple case of economics. If the manufacturer can't sell enough to make it worthwhile, they simply don't make it.

Try asking one or more of these Mfr's what the cost of purchasing a full [small] production run would cost. It might be affordable.

And if it is not affordable, it will give justification for your colleague to get the filler metal spec changed to something that actually is regularly produced.
 
Purchase a heat of ER309LMo to the EN spec and qualify your welding procedures to that chemistry/ heat of wire. It's what I had to do. Typically it is faster and cheaper to qualify new procedures and welders than it is to hold the entire job up.

Sandvik make 2 x ER309LMo wires in accordance with AWS/SFA 5.9 and meteng has given you the link to Avesta who also manufacture this wire.
My Kobelco handbook also shows TGS-309MoL,

Let me guess, you need to back clad a vessel from clad 316 plate. 309MoL is indeed the correct filler for the butter layer.

Be sure to leave enough depth to achieve full corrosion resistance at the finished surface. I have argued with more than one welding engineer who swore that 1/8" depth (the plate clad thickness) was sufficient. It is not.
 
I am in 100% concurance with brimstoner on his caldding statement.
