Hi

I'm currently designing a barrel for a lab sized ball mill. I've struggled to find any resources with specific design information so have cobbled together a calc sheet in excel to start the process off. I'd be really keen to hear feedback from anyone who may have experience in this area or who could recommend a good design resource. I've attached my spreadsheet, feel free to have a look and use it for your own devices.

So far I have been using Crushing and Grinding by G.C. Lowrison and Ball and Tube and rod mills by H.E. Rose.

Specs:
The mill is to be used to mush a 3 Liter 50/50 mixture of soil and water. Basically I'm aiming to homogenize the solution and reduce average particle size to around 1 micron. I want to run it as a batch process and am currently trying to optimize drum size, ball size and rpm.

Cheers

There are standard jar mills available for lab milling. Why would you design something different?. Optimized for what?

Get one of those books by Walte H Duda. There is a mine of information out there. Typically, I would go get one of those standard mills .
