Hi Folks,

I'm so sorry to have to come here to ask this question but I'm stumped.

I'm doing my first assembly drawing in NX for 10 years and I cannot work out how to create a basic parts list (yes, I am embarrassed!).

Our customer's policy is to create a separate drawing part, call in the assembly part and create the drawing from there. Unfortunately, I cannot work out how to make NX create a parts list in the drawing of the called in assembly. I know I used to be able to do this back in 2004 but I cannot remember how I used to do it. I searched on here, searched on the interweb and on YouTube but everyone seems to show how to do it when drawing within the assembly part - not within a separate drawing part.

Please could you give me quick tutorial.

Many thanks.

Dave

well, first thing's first
What version of NX are you on ?

Oops, sorry, yes ...forgot that one.

7.5

Insert -> table -> parts list
Place the table. Right click the parts list and choose "edit levels". Since you are adding the assembly as a component to the drawing file, you will probably want to turn on the "master model" option. There are also other options if you want to see only the top level components in the list or all components.

Dave,

First create a assembly file. For example assembly1.prt. Then click on FILE->NEW->DRAWING->OK.
1. Under DRAWING tab, select appropriate SHEET size A-Drawing or B-Drawing....
2. New File Name --> assembly1_drw.prt (make sure you name this file other than your assembly file)
3. Folder --> Enter path where all files stored.
4. Part to create drawing of --> Assembly1.prt

Hit OK.

Then Click INSERT->TABLE->PART LIST. Click inside drawing and place table whereever you want.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I found where I was going wrong...

We'd been sent stand alone drawing frames a few days ago and because of IT security we've been locked out of saving them to our UGII\Templates\ folder. So, since then I've been starting the drawing frame part, saving it as the drawing .prt file and then inserting a base view of the component to associate the component to the drawing. Clearly this doesn't work with an assembly part as I'd expected.

I couldn't get on top of cowski's method - don't know why - the part list table just would not show the assembly parts. However I adopted and adapted GirishKamble's method by starting a new part then imported the drawing frame part and its attributes and then inserted the Part List. All is good now.

Thanks for your help!

I want to pass one more thing onto you
Don't forget to utilize your command finder if you are having trouble finding something in the menus

@DaveJFT, bit late I know, but I finally got to finish the parts list video I've been working on in our templates series: It might have some things worth looking at.
