The difference is the load/tension rating. Belt width can also be a factor. I have used a piece of key stock to bridge across a wide belt when using a single spring gage. For multiple V-belts, be aware whether tension specification is for a single strand or all together. I prefer the sonic (vibration frequency) method for setting belt tension.

if the belts are tensioned by an idler, that's provide another way to measure the belt tension (by sensing the load applied to the idler)

so, if the belt is wider like 80mm and we use single belt tension gauge, we will get different value than the twin tension because of the contact point that acts on the belt width is not the same, right??
