I am considering the use of bent stainless steel thrd'd rod for use as stirrups in a concrete repair situation. The existing conventional #3 stirrups in the concrete beams that are getting repaired have lost 75% to 100% of section via corrosion (due to lack of cover). Am digging out the old stirrups, but do not have the option of increasing cover in the repair, for architectural reasons. Is the stainless ductile enough to take a 90 deg or 180 deg bend and still function properly? Bend radii need to be similar to standard ACI radii. 1/4" and 3/8" dia rod sizes are considered. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I would use plain round bar rather than threaded rod.

Have you considered the coefficient of expansion and contraction of the austenitic stainless steel as compared to the concrete? This could present a problem in an exposed situation.
