Hi folks,
How do you make a bi section cut (I want to cut the assembly along two planes)? How do you make it? Need your support pls.

Do you wish the section result to be for usable geometry (curves) or just for visualization purposes (to be able to see inside the model)? Also, knowing what version of NX you're using is helpful in some instances.

Is it what you are looking for ?

Hi folks,
Thanks for your replies.I use nx10.I want to make a L section of my assembly. After the sectioming, 3/4 th of my model remains.Hope it helps.

@sudhakarn,

There's about 3 different ways to section something in NX. It can be done in Drafting for a Drawing View; it can be done in Modeling to create curves to be used for additional modeling tasks; it can also be done in Modeling for visualization purposes as shown above by Didier. You need to let us know which method you are trying to do in order for us to be able to show you how to do it the correct way, otherwise we're left to guess what you're actually trying to do.

Thanks!

Hi xwheel,
Thanks for your interest.I have an assembly model with 3 parts (solid model).I want to make a section out of it.Thank you.Hope it is clear now.

No, the purpose of this section cut is still not clear.
Is it for documentation purposes ?, PMI and /or Drafting. ( Drawing views in NX are 3D.)
or Visualization purposes ?
Or, maybe modeling purposes ?

Tomas

Hi Roost,
It is for the visualization purpose in assembly.

Depending on your part shape, you might be able to use View Section and set the View Section Type pulldown to Box. The portion INSIDE the box will be shown - what's OUTSIDE the box is sectioned (not shown). If that doesn't work, about the only recourse you'll have is to model the cutout.

I would also log an ER for this - maybe give the View Section Type Box to have the option to reverse the section direction on every face (what's inside the box is not shown). I could see where that would be useful in some instances.

Hi DidierPsicad,xwheelguy,
Thanks for your replies.I believe assembly cut should work.

I have a similar need to section away 1/4 to 1/3 of a large assembly model for presentation. Basically I have an entire aircraft of thousands of parts. I just want to section out a segment of the skin and airframe leaving the furnished interior for some pretty graphics. Assembly cut chokes and locks up if it cuts an entire part away within the assembly, i.e. if a small part is completely removed as a result of the cut, NX pukes.

Box Section would be great if I could reverse it to remove what is inside the box instead of what is outside the box. I am super frustrated and starting to get pressure to get my presentation completed, but there is no way I can proceed as intended.

It is easy in other CAD systems that I have worked with. In Solid Edge you can even use a sketch to cut away a section.

Any further advice for a new NX user? My company switched from Edge to NX this year, and none of us can figure this one out.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon,
you say you need it for presentation.
Does this mean a static image or a 3d model you can rotate in front of an audience ?
In case its a static image, you can create this in the drafting application.
in case it's live audience, i would propose several sections, you can define any number of sections in advance and swap between these during the presentation.
( click the box to show /hide section curves , double click to "on/off" the section.)
But, still the limitation that only inside box or 1/2 planes.
