I need to grind some AlBemet plates 2' sq x 1/2" thk. I need .010" removed from each side.
Double disc grinding would be Ok too.
Does anyone know of a source that specialise in this/would perform this operation ?

Anything with that much Be in it makes me nervous. Please make sure your machinists and vendors are aware of the health risks involved.

Could you simply flycut the blanks to remove the .010? Make sure you run coolant.

Otherwise, contact the manufacturer for recommended suppliers. I believe Brush Wellman maintains a list of some sort.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Don't be nervous. We have been fabricating this material for years and are in a scrupulously clean and well adapted (for this process) machine shop. We are listed on Brush Wellmans' approved fabricators list.
Brush Wellman are the sole supplier for this material. The other one is Russian.
I am looking to approve a vendor for this process, and they would need to be surgically as clean as our own shop when dealing with this material.

Obviously I wasn't any help at all! Where is the "embarassed" emoticon? I am probably oversensitive to these types of situations since I have suffered the effects of both metal and polymer fume fever in the past. Best of luck.
