Hi Guys,

Ive got a blockwork wall 4 meters in height and its supported a 3 tonne object bolted into the side of the wall at half its height. I'm guessing this will place quite a large concentrated moment onto the wall. I'm not 100% sure about how to go about designing this wall to deal with this moment. I'd say that im going to need quite a bit of load on the wall in order to generate enough friction force for the mortar to stop bricks from locally getting pulled out. Any help/guidance on this would be much appreciated.

My version of the detailing that everyone seems to be migrating towards. I like to create a gap between the support member and the wall to prevent prying action. Probably paranoia but the gap kind winds up in there naturally anyhow. I also wouldn't mind seeing a cross member or two between adjacent racks to deal with incidental out of plane loads. In a gym setting, you'll have plenty of that.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Channels can be longer with the mech stuff mounted between them to minimise the eccentricity of the load to the wall, and to reduce the loading on the fasteners... but, pretty much the same idea.

Mech stuff? I thought that we were dealing with gym weight plates.

My error, missed the loading type... can put the round BAR through the HSS...
