I'm in the process of determining a method of repair or replacement for existing corroded angles supporting three levels of cable tray and thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced a similar situation or has any ideas to offer.
Each level of cable tray is supported by a trapeze consisting of unistrut and 1/2" threaded rod. The unistrut, cable tray and rod appear to have been spec'd with corrosion resistance in mind. However it appears that the angle is bare steel which is now rusted. Some are worse than others.
The trapeze support angles are bolted through the stem of precast double tee roof panels. It appears from the original design drawings that the bolt holes were cast in the tees, not drilled on site. The support angle spacing is 5 feet longitudinally along the span of the tee. The unistrut span for each level of trapeze is 5 feet.
The difficult part is the access. The top level of cable tray is approx. 40 feet off the floor and above existing equipment and platforms. The corroded angles are an additional 7-10 feet above the top cable tray. There is no way to access the cable tray or any of the supports with a lift. Getting to the angles will require fall protection to be installed in the double tees and the use of a ladder off of the top cable tray.
