I understand in Europe it cadmium plating for fasteners, with the exception of marine safety equipment fasteners and essential aircraft fasteners, is not permitted. This is because of health and environmental issues, I understand.

Can anyone confirm this with specific references?

thanks, Dik

Who said his product isn't electrical equipment?
Your best place to start is to first define what your product is, where its being sold,etc... Cadmium has been banned by many standards yet many other standards still allow it. You really need to know what standards apply to the product/function in question.

A325 high strength bolts... and fasteners for cold formed steel siding.

I tried both the REACH and the RoHS links cited and the RoHS requires password access and I couldn't find the actual legislation on either.

I was also wondering if California has legislation in existance or planned.

Why would you want cadmium plated fasteners? Galvanised bolts and screws are much better for preventing corrosion.

I don't... it's a client request/requirement... and I think it's a bad idea... just puttng a technical memo together on the matter.

Dik,

Here is a site that has a list of the actual European legislation related to restricted substances:

As far as I know, Council Directive 76/769/EEC was the first document that really started to prohibit Cadmium and other substances. It has been subsequently repealed and replaced by others, but here is what it looked like when it was released:

I believe that the current restrictions in CA regarding Cd only pertain to emissions from electroplaters, etc., not any actual ban on end items, products, fasteners, etc.
