Calculate dimensions of a chord for a given weight? Possible? 1

I have a large cast steel disk, ~44" diameter flat on one side, ~1.375" wide at rim and tapered to ~5" wide on the other side. I need to balance this, and do so by machining a segment off the periphery. Calculating the depth and / or length of chord to match the weight required is a bit tricky.

So, I have modeled a segment in SW 2014, and by varying the depth I can use the mass properties to determine how heavy that segment would be (and obtain the length and thickness of the piece). However this is a bit of trial and error to get it exact.

Is there some clever way to make the weight the driving control of my depth measurement. [ponder]

I have attached (I hope) my *.SLDPRT to assist if possible a solution to this.

Weight is derived from the geometry and the mass properties. I do not think there is way to make it the driving part of your model. The only way I can think of something driving it like that is to make a Global variable in the Equations and using that in some fashion to drive your other model

Thanks.. I suspected as much. Using equations and global variables is way ... WAY.. beyond my abilities. I plan to resolve my problem by making a lot of different depths and making a spreadsheet to find sizes in relation to weight.

Try playing around with the "design study" tool. It's similar to a "goal seek" in excel. Start a design study, choose your variables (length and thickness), add constraints, if needed and define your goals (weight/mass)
I haven't included center of mass in anything I've done but you might be able to add that as a constraint on it's location.
Should do most of the legwork you are planning on doing in the spreadsheet.
