I have a file I translated from UGNX to STEP to V5 CATPart. In CATIA when I call up the CATPart I am not able to turn off the compass or the specification tree using the view menu. The check mark goes away in the menu but the items still remain on the screen.

Suggestions and or causes? R17SP1HF22

Thanks..

F3 shuts the Spec tree on/off
You can hotkey the compass hide/show using Customize -- Commands -- All commands -- Compass -- Show properties.

Maybe that will work for you.

I've tried all those techniques. I think it may be a bug. When you import something into CATIA it seems to shut off most of the available functionality such as creating holes, cuts, etc. Seems the ability to shut off spec tree and compass are gone too.

I'd file a bug report but I have no idea how to do that so I'll just let it go.

I was just working with a STEP file, so I tried to turn off the compass and Spec Tree. I was able to turn off/on both, using the VIEW menu and F3.

I'm running R15, and I think the STEP file came from Pro/E.

I think you found a software bug. Tell your support folks, and let them submit the PMR.

Not having the Part Design tools (Holes, Split, Pocket, etc.) is probably due to not having a solid feature. The STEP file is probably just surfaces. If you make a CloseSurface solid from the STEP file (or just make a pad), I bet the greyed out tools come back.

jackk,

Yea, it's strange. I pulled up some other files and I was able to control the tree and compass. I converted over 20K files so there's no way I'm going back to check on which ones are not allowing the functionality.

At this point, I'm calling it done.
