Hi,

I'm trying to put a .015 blend on a linked body that has concave & convex surface. Previously, I had no problems, but I had to modify the Linked Body a little bit. Now, for some unknown reason, I can't apply my .015 blend.

What could be the cause & more importantly, how can I fix?

Thanks

What is your modeling tolerance?
with only a .015 blend the tolerance should be quite small

Hi,

Right now, my modeling preference & blend tolerance are set at .001. Should one or both of these be modified? If so, which one?

Thanks

Are you able to apply a smaller blend?
Sometimes if you apply a smaller blend and 'sneak up' on the value you really want you can see where things are going wrong.

Depending on the situation, a face blend sometimes works where an edge blend fails.

Can you post a section of the model or a .jpg?

btw, what version of NX are you on?

.001 tolerance should be OK

Hi,

I'm using NX 7.5. I have a sketch, which made a tool to subtract into my main part body. I had no problem subtracting, but I can get 1 or 2 out of the 12 features - like a race track, to blend on the concave or convex side.

This should be a simple feature to use, as it previously was on the same part, but now being a pain...

The .001 tolerance doesn't seem to be working or doesn't seem to have an effect.

Any other suggestions?

If you could upload the model, or at least a chunk of it, which would demonstrate where and what problems you're seeing.

Hi,

Hopefully this file will upload properly. I'm actually having a lot of issues with this whole model, but here are the primary issues.

In Eng-Tips_Blend_Issue.prt, I cannot apply a .015" radius blend on the concave & convex very well. Previously, I had no problems in the same in area.

In the, Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt, I'm having difficulties transitioning. My first intent, as with the core body in Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt, was to create a bunch of cross-sections, then use the Through Curve feature to connect it all.

I've discovered that splines are quite difficult to work with if I need to tweak my profiles.

Assistance with both issues would be greatly appreciated, but assistance with one would be great to. I added some pics to.

Thanks Everyone....

Hi Everyone,

I forgot to mention that, Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt is a sub-component of Eng-Tips_Blend_Issue.prt, but I'm sure you experts would've figured this out.

Thanks

What did you upload as I can't open it and I get no warning or anything, just a null response? If these are NX part files, perhaps if you zipped them it would help.

Hi John,

I uploaded a 'zip' file called, Eng-Tips_NX 7.5 Blend & Transition_Help.zip.

In it, you will find:

1) Eng-Tips_Blend_Issue.prt
2) Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt (Child Component)
3)Transition_Pic_1.jpg
4) Transition_Pic_2.jpg
5) Transition_Pic_3.jpg
6) Transition_Pic_5.jpg

The file is approximately 15 KB's. I re-uploaded it to see if it will submit. It appears that the zip file has uploaded successfully.

The NX files are in 7.5.

The "&" in your file name appears to be messing things up. When I try to download the file it attempts to retrieve "Eng-Tips_NX_7.5_Blend_" and the rest of the filename is cut off.

Also, is there any chance of a parasolid that I can import into NX6? We haven't updated to the latest release yet.

Hi,

I renamed Eng-Tips_NX 7.5 Blend & Transition_Help.zip to
Eng-Tips_NX_Blend_and_Transition_Help.zip & uploaded it.

As requested, I included a parasolid for the blend & transition issue.

Hopefully, you'll be able to open.

Hi John & Others,

In the Eng-Tips_Blend_Issue.prt file, I'm trying to add .015" blends on the concave & convex features in the upper-center of the part - called a core.

The clockwise or counter-clockwise types of features.

In the Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt, I'm trying to get a "cleaner & parametric" transitions of the Leading (Leftside or the side that is fairly straight, then transitions & twists to the core body. On the Trailing edge (Rightside) of the core, it's a more difficult transition.

My current features give me something close to what I want, but not close enough.

Thanks again....

I'm going to have to look at this over the long weekend. Maybe by Monday I'll have something to send back.

Hi John & Others,

If you happen to be looking at my, "Eng-Tips_Transition_BC.prt file, you will see that I have a bunch of sketch profiles. Originally, my design intent was to make a handful of cross-sections, then use the through-curve feature to define the solid (airfoil-core profile, twists & transitions.

As you will also see, I have a handful of airfoil-core sketch profiles that are partially constrained with splines. Getting the profile wasn't too difficult, but if I had to tweak the leading & trailing edges of these sketch profiles, the sketch became very difficult to work with, even to move it a couple of thousandths. Perhaps, you have a better suggestion to constrain & maintain desired profiles.

When using the Through Curve feature, there are areas that does not form well & becomes distorted or funking looking, which is not my design intent. If I had 5 cross-sections, the first 4 would develop fine, then for whatever reasons, the 5th would distort my whole solid feature.

What would be the cause of this?

Thanks again everyone....
