Can't select edges through stock

Hello everyone. I have a new issue that I have never seen before. I am programming using Siemens NX10. As of today I can no longer select a part boundary ("edge" of the part model), unless I turn off the stock (block) layer. I have also tried Information, Object and it will not select any edge of the model, fixture or any edge that is inside, or behind the stock. I can move over a small amount where I am not trying to shoot through the stock and it will select the same fixture edges perfectly. If I turn off the stock layer, it will pick the edges perfectly. I have verified that the layer is selectable and is not Visible Only. This has happened in 2 different part files today and it has me puzzled. Another note is it will select faces or the entire part model, it seems to be only edges that it will not pick. I have the selection set to No Selection Filter, and Entire Assembly. I have restarted my computer several times, with the same result.

The first thing you need to do is check your filter settings.
Usually it's on the upper left side of your NX screen.

The Information - Object is a wonderful function because it "cuts through" all settings, - If you can see the object , the info-Object will ( should) be able to select it.
- If you cannot select the object w Info object, there is something strange going on.

This model-s,
are they made in NX ?
do they actually have edges or is it that you expect it to be an edge where you pick ? when you set the selection filter to faces and single face, does NX select "one" face or "More"?
What type of "geometry" is one or a few of the faces ? Planar / cylindrical / Spherical / B surface ?

It is not uncommon that users, unintentionally, create free form ( B-surfaces) objects that have only 2 faces instead of intended multiple.
If you sweep a square using the swept feature,( The swept feature that can use more than one guide), that should logically produce 4 faces, but NX will by default create 2 faces to approximate the section.
( There is an option "preserve shape" to create as many faces as there are sharp corners in the section string)

Tomas

Yes, they are both designed within NX by an engineer, not myself.

If I turn off my translucent block, I can select any edge with no issues. If I change the selection filter set to "edge", nothing highlights and becomes selectable inside or behind the block. Only items that are outside or in front of the block are selectable. I had the part mated within the block, but just experimented with sliding it so that it is partly inside and partly outside of the block. Using Information Object, any edge looking into the block will not select, however any edge outside of the block picked perfectly. Apparently the block is stopping the edge selection. Maybe it has a force field around it?? LOL I also find it strange that Information Object will select any face or solid body within the block, but no edges.

The part is a simple block with 2 angled edges and a step. It's about the simplest part you could design. It is almost square, with all planer faces. Looks like it has several extrudes, 4 holes per the Information Object data. All surfaces are planer or trimmed planer.

We have the new 1899 Version of NX that we will install after we finish this very hot project. We are waiting so that any issues will not delay the project.

Also, as a test, I deleted my block and created a new one with the same results. I even positioned it half into my vise model, it will not select any edge within the blocks. If I select the same edge just outside the block, it selects it perfectly.

Thanks Jerry1423, but as mentioned I have already checked that.

SUCCESS! Apparently I accidentally clicked on this button. I have never used that feature, on purpose anyway. I had a coworker open my file to test it and he had the same issue. However, his part worked fine. He finally found that setting.

Do you have the "allow selection of hidden wireframe" option turned on? In my install it is to the left of the snap point options; I think that is the default location, but I may have customized it.

Personally, I also like to turn on the "allow multi-select of hidden faces and bodies" and "highlight hidden edges" options (the 2 icons to the right of the highlighted one).

Edit: too late, looks like you found it already!

I just learned something !
Thanks.
