I need to know the approximately value of the capacitance of the windings for a 6MW generator, 6900V, 50Hz. We are planing to do a Tan Delta test and is important to know if the instrument that we are renting has the correct range. (Delta 2000 1.1pF-1microF).
Thanks to all.

A 15 KV, 200 MW, 3000 RPM, 60 slot generator has capacitance of about 0.3 microF. So, your kit (1 micro F)can handle the capacitance for your machine which would be much less than 0.3 micro F. The question is, what is its current rating ? Most of them are rated for 100 mA by themselves. Some extend the ampacity (?) by connecting inductors in parallel with the winding.

5 amps. It must be a big kit indeed. You shouln't have any problem capacitance or leakage currentwise. There may not need of inductors at all.

Today, I did C & Tan delta measurement on a 6.6 KV, 11 MW, 3000 RPM, 42 slot turbo generator. The capacitance per phase was 40 nanofarads with a leakage current 40 mA at 3.5 KV. Hope this helps
