Hi I am looking for more understanding on some standards. For drawings of steel plates, we follow G40.21-44W. Does this apply to steel tubes too? or it is different?

What standard system are you using?
They all have an index where you can look up the titles and scopes of the specs.

"Overview
"This seventh edition, two-part standard covers structural quality steel plates, shapes, hollow sections, sheet, sheet piling, cold-formed channels, Z sections, and bars for general construction and engineering purposes."

Check with local suppliers or fabricators to see what is commonly used and available, particularly in smaller quantities.
Note that structural tubing, mechanical tubing, and piping may all be different products.

HSS can be either G40.21 or A500. There are tolerance differences on the wall thickness. In my experience G40.21 is more expensive.
