Hi,

We are doing overlay by inconel 625 on API 5L Gr X65 .CE value as per WPS is a limiting value for production or can we use same material grade and thickness with higher CE value ?

What does the WPQR say? I don't care much for WPS'ses for extracting this kind of info.

What is the specificaion or code you are using that perscirbes a CE limit?

Regardless of the code or standard, you are limited by the material listed by the WPS. If the WPS only lists API 5L Gr X65, that is all you can weld in production.

You may be able to revise the WPS to include additional base metal specifications to the extent permitted by the specific welding standard. Each welding standard or code groups the base metals differently. As such, you must refer to the applicable standard to see what materials can be included in the WPS.

Per ASME the base metals are grouped by the P number. Per API the grouping is based on strength and limited to carbon and low alloy steels if I recollect. AWS B2.1 uses M numbers that are similar to ASME's P numbers, but is more inclusive.

So, it all goes back to what is included by your WPS.

Best regards - Al

Additional essential variable may be from your client specification.
