Hello,

we have to weld a carbon steel (SA-333 Gr. 6 with P-No. 1) for low temperature piping acc. to B31.3 with a filler metal (A5.18:ER 70S-6) which has F-No. 6 and A-No. 1.
Usually we use A106 for "normal" temperatures with the same P-No. but with a filler metal with has A-No. 2. We do not have any WPS for this A-No. 1 and this is an essential variable for GTAW.

Is it sufficient to create new WPS or do we have to create also new PQR and WPQ? A-No. is no essential variable of PQR and WPQ for GTAW.

greets

JanMi,

QW-404.5 (Applicable only to ferrous metals.) A
change in the chemical composition of the weld deposit
from one A‐Number to any other A‐Number in
Table QW-442. Qualification with A‐No. 1 shall qualify
for A‐No. 2 and vice versa.

Create a new WPS and you are good to go,
Regards,
DD

If impact testing is required, a change in filler metal classification is a supplementary essential variable. You will have to qualify the WPS with the ER70S-6 filler metal with impact testing.

ER70S-6 does not meet A no. 1 requirements due to Mn content it may have.
You will have to use provisions of QW-404.5 and qualify WPS with this consumable.
Instead of A no. you can write the classification (ER70S-6) on WPS
QW-404.12 also applies when impact tests are required
