Dear All,
As per ASME Section IX QW-404.33 Classification of electrode is essential. So guide my about following:
I have a PQR,
Process : SMAW
Material: SA-516 Gr 70
Electrode : E7018
Can i change this electrode E-6018????
Chemical analysis of E6018 also as per A-1
Note: Chemical analysis of E7018, 6018 and A-1 is attached here.

You may create a Procedure specifying E6018 from the PQR referenced. However you need to consider the design criteria. E6018 does not have the 70KSI tensile strength that E7018 and SA-517 Gr. 70 have.

Sorry, I've never seen a 6018 SMAW electrode. Do they sell them in the USA? I do not recollect seeing it listed in AWS A5.1.

Best regards - Al

I can only find E 6018 in "Discontinued Electrode Classifications" in SFA 5.1.
Is there a newer edition than the one I have ?
Cheers,
DD

SFA 5.1 - Table A5 Note 2 - "This classification has been reintroduced in this revision of AWS A5.1/5.1M with revised classification requirements."

A good rule that I was taught a long time ago was to never go to the QW-400 part of ASME Section IX unless you are directed there by QW-200/300.

David,
That is why I am confused.
ASME IIC 2004 SFA 5.1 has Discontinued Electrode Classifications as Table A4 (not Table A5) and E 6018 is noted in this table as discontinued (there are Notes a & b, no Note 1 or 2).
Cheers,
DD
