changing materials property from step to an other

hi ,
how can i change material property from step 1 to step 2
for exemple i have two materials : material_1 and material_2
and i have a part with 3 partition
in the step 1 : the first partition of the part have the material_1 and the two other partitions have the material_2
in the step 2: the first and the second partition have tha materials _1( the second partition change from material_1 to material_2) and the third partition have material_2
in the third step : the first , the second and the third partitions have material_1( the third partition change from material_2 to material_1)
how can i do this process with having changes in the input file ??? ( i prefer to use function not subrotines)
i hope some one help me , because i spend 3 weeks tring it but i didn't find a solution


i'm usng abaqus

It depends on the software you are using, so tell us that, and if that software has its own forum here, ask there.

I don't know what functions vs subroutines have to do with it.

i'm using abaqus software , and i want to change input file so i have to use field function and * initial conditions, type=field function
