Changing Server for TDM Ideas 5M3

Good day Team,

Due to an IT request I need to change the OS version into my current ideas TDM serve in this case I need to move from Server 2003 to Server 2012, So this process already done and Basically i just install the license server and server resource locking.

Then I move the team folders with all the library's(Q Drive) and i put it into the new server(S Drive) finally I setup the ideas services to point the new drive location(S Drive)for this task I used TDI Wizard that will setup the master id number and new address location for Team folders(Project, Scratch, Shared & Master). This process will release a new parameter file that calls "ideas_param13.dat", This file will be used for all clients that desire to connect into the Ideas TDM(S drive)

So basically all the setup looks good but at the end I can not see any library when i open Ideas, Do you know if there is an especial step that i need to consider at the momment to move the database to another location?? maybe TDI wizard do not setup everything for point the ideas client to the new server but Im not an expert on Ideas TDM migration.

Hi Carlos!

Hopefully you've already solved this, but in case, here's my thoughts...(going by memory, so if you are still have issues, let me know and I'll have to dig out my old notes).

The Best Practice for TDM was to put it on a mapped drive, usually T: (Q: in your case).

When/if you ever need to move it to a new network drive, like you are doing, the process was to name that new one T: also (Q: in your case).

The Windows Mapping takes care of the change for you. Once you do that, TDM does not notice any difference and still looks to the same Q: location for the TDM files.

The process you describes using, with TDI, and new S: location, and a new ID, is what you would use to setup a NEW location.

So when you are looking at it, it is (properly) empty, because you have not put anything in it.

This new TDM does not know, or care, that there happen to be other existing TDM files on that S: drive, because it thinks they still live on Q:

If you have no control over the naming of your mapped drives (rare, but maybe your IT controls it), I think the are methods in the DMADMIN uttility to allow you to run a "move" for TDM files. But that's possiblity long and complex.

So if you can, I recommend you ignore this new TDM you created with TDI and map your drive as Q: instead of S:, and I suspect it will work.

you are correct it works to keep the same map letter as I used before, So right now my TDM is up and running.
