Hi

I am new to QA and I was instructed to make a PQR for stainless steel. The base metal is S32750 super duplex stainless steel. And one test requirement is Charpy V notch impact test at -50°C on weld, HAZ and Base metal. What should be the impact value at weld area?

What does the welding specification say? End users have myriad values. Most group around ISO 17781, Quality Level I values of 50J average, 40J individual

ASTM A923 is a good ref.
For 2205 it is 54J, but I don't recall the 2507 value.

What is the facility/vessel construction code?

@Ed - there is no value for SDSS weld metal in A923. The DSS weld metal value is 34J. It has to be clarified that these are "minimum" values, taken to mean minimum individual.

Odd, I have worked on projects that used A923C on SDSS.
The 2205 jobs that I have worked with have not allowed the lower impact for weld metal.
They have stuck to 54J minimum for all locations.
In reality 2205 should generate values closer to 200J.
I'll look for the Outokumpu report that has this data.

I wouldn't worry about weld metal because weld consumables are over alloyed and result in enhanced properties.
However the HAZ being a mix of both and will be weaker.

* Finding a solution is great * Knowing how to implement it is fantastic * Believing it is the only one and best is naive ?

If the construction code is B31.3 whorls the lateral expansion not be the acceptance criteria??? 0.38mm?
