CIP Volumes to flush lines 2

I am looking for imformation regarding the amount of flush water (in terms of loop volumes) required to clean residual milk products (or other miscible fluids) from a delivery line? I have some empirical data of my own which I can share, but would like to know of any one elses experience or perhaps a reference to published data on the subject.

I assume that you are talking about a pre-rinse flush prior to cleaning with a detergent solution.

When we set up the CIP sets that we've supplied we generally reckon on 10 minutes flush time as an initial setting (subject to line length) This ofcourse assumes there are no dead legs or dirt traps which will always take longer to flush and should have been removed in the line design.

The rates vary but as a rule of thum, assume a minimum rate of 1.5mt/sec this is widely recognised as the minimum for turbulence required for mechanical cleaning, I generally aim for about 1.8 mt/sec in our designs.
