Clamshell bucket for helicoptors

Does anyone know whether a helicoptor can be fitted with a clamshell bucket like some cranes have (

) to help carry away mud? I was wondering about that when I read about the rescue effort in the Philippines.

Could be done with a conventional two line bucket and a single hoist. Not sure of the practical limits of the application due to the weight and "flight characteristics" of a typical bucket but if you think it's an idea worth pursuing I'd be glad to help.
