Hi Everone!
A specialist is designing a 140m clear span truss for Hangar with a pure pin base connection, featuring a 160mm diameter pin. The columns are resting in this pin on both sies. Given the enormous loads, I'd appreciate feedback from anyone with experience on similar heavy connections.

The columns are pinned at their base???
Or you mean the trusses are pinned to the column tops?

Lets see, some of the issues could be: tolerances, buckling, deflection, buckling during erection, wind loads,

This is the column resting on the pin. The roof system is truss system connected with columns.

I read somewhere it has to be only 1mm more than pin dia.
Where did you read that? Was whatever you read directly applicable to your thing? What were the reasons given for deciding that 1 mm is the magic number?

Potential pitfall: this heavy and complicated thing is designed using random snippets of information from "somewhere" and input from random strangers on the internet.

I was looking to the sketch you have posted . Then the post evaporated. Apparently, the diagonals shows that the columns are stanchion column . The stanchion bases are rigid but the individual vertical elements real pinned ?
The necessity of expensive pin detail is not justified in this case . IMO, it is sufficient to provide flat-ended base detail with a single line of anchor bolts so reasonable rotation of the column base can be obtained .
