I would like to know the definition of "CLUSTER "
which was most commonly used in Gear Industry and Dash Board Instruments Manufacturing Company.

It simply means that there is a GROUP of something that have something in common. It's really slang English, and is even applied to a group of people working on a problem where either the group isn't amoung the brightest guys in the dept., or the problem is real tough with many ways it can be solved-but all of the ways are compromises. The situation is sometimes called a "cluster f***". <g>

In a reduction gear train, the intermediate gears are clusters. The driven gear has a pinion attached that drives the next gear. The gear might have 50 teeth, and the pinion as little as 10 teeth. If the pinion drives a next gear of 60 teeth, the stage gear reduction ratio is 6:1.

Frequently the pinion is longer than the mating gear because it requires overlap on both sides, and it requires a longer face width to accommodate the higher stresses that pinions experience.

As you progress in the gear train, the pitch generally becomes coarser. There are higher loads and stresses because the cluster torque keeps going up stage by stage. Also, the face widths tend to increase with every stage for the same reason.

The cluster in the instrument panel , or dashboard, is the assembly with the speedo and all the gauges in it. It often used to be a seperate unit from the rest of the dash, with as much of the electronics in as possible, so that it could be assembled and tested before fitting.

That's no longer practical so it all gets built into the IP, which in itself is tested prior to assembly into the car.

Cheers

The Cluster is the synergy of two or more features in any module .
If we consider in the gear box , two or more gears ( either pinion or gear ) in the same integral shaft which engages in the other pair of Cluster gears .

If we consider the Instrument panel , Speedometer ,RPM Meter , Fuel Gauge , Temperature gauge and other indiactors are mounted in the Single Module it is also called Instrument Cluster.

The situation is sometimes called a "cluster f***"

or in mixed company, a Charlie Foxtrot. Quite an entertaining dance to watch, eh?
