ok i know that i can us Phased Array--but im trying not to buy a brand new Phased Array machine ---i do however have an usn 60 angle beam machine--will this suffice?

MRTOOKIE32,

Where your USN60 will come up short is meeting paragraph d of the code case which mandates a data acquisition system. Unless you are capable of outputting the a-scans from the USN60 into a PC for storage and manipulation. That paragraph eliminates all hand manipulated instruments including hand manipulated phased array units. As I read the code case they are mandating a system which will store all of the a-scan data to allow post test replay and analysis. Of course positional data would also be necessary.

I have never used the code case, so there could be other interpretation out there.

The short answer is yes in welds 1/2" thick or greater. You don't need phased array. There are many restrictions that have to be met, but most inspection companies that have QUTE examiners and procedures can do the work.
