column link spacing - above and below slabs and beams

Hallo Struct.Engs

Am looking for the best solution for the spacing of column links. Different codes give just a fixed spacing all the same through the whole column. Other codes here in this case EURO code says again to reduce the spacing between the link by 0.6 by
- overlapings
- above the slab and below the slab

how do you detail this areas? Are you also reducing the link spacing?

Yes, reduce the tie spacing in these areas. It improves the ductility of the connection. Also, the tie at the crank in the vertical bar is essential. Depending on the bar size, you may need to use more than one tie to develop the lateral bar force at this point.

I always provide ties at half spacing for a lap length above and below the slab-column joint

So you have this rules also in your code?

actually hardly you can see this really done on the site so I was wondering if it is really necessary.

As hokie66 sais the extra links at the crank thi sis clear but below and above the beams and slabs? even if your column bars are going through two levels and you don't have any overlaping, splicing areas you still reduce it on the half spacing?

For example column 600x400mm. then you reduce the spacing on the lenght of the 600mm above and below the slab?

or woudl it be more practical to do the whole column directly with the shorter spacing?
